Aledo Independent School District | Rick Herrin
through programs such as the Local Government
Collaborative, which brings together leaders in
the city, county, and state government, as well as
chamber of commerce and education foundation
leaders to collaborate in representation of the citizens
of Aledo ISD’s fast-growth community.
The efforts of the district and its commitment to
growing greatness have been recognized both locally
and by the state. The East Parker County Chamber
of Commerce awarded Aledo ISD as the 2020 “Large
Business of the Year” for businesses with more than
100 employees. In addition, the district’s exceptional
financial stewardship and transparency have been
recognized by the state. The district received a
state Superior Achievement Rating for the 16th
consecutive year and a Financial Transparency Star
Rating by the Texas Comptroller.
Aledo ISD’s focus on transparency in the
community extends to communications presence and
commitment. Through its comprehensive aledoisd.
org website, social media accounts and mobile app,
Bearcats families are connected. The district mobile
app can be downloaded via the App Store and
Google Play and also serves as an important mass
notification system for news, alerts and updates.
When connecting and notifying families, Aledo ISD
is committed to multiple platforms to best reach
students, parents and the community.
The highest commitment is the safety of the
Aledo ISD students and staff. Aledo ISD has its own
police department that includes a full-time armed
police officer on each campus. The district also offers
multiple ways for students, parents and staff to report
safety concerns or threats by using the BearcatWatch
tip line.
Part of being in a close-knit community is
the relationships. Aledo ISD is fortunate to have
outstanding community partners that provide
support to both students and staff that include:
Bearcat Backers, Aledo Children’s AdvoCats, Aledo
Education Foundation, Aledo PTO, the East Parker
County Chamber of Commerce and the Business
Development Group of Aledo.
New signs of building greatness are on the
horizon. In November 2019, voters approved a
$149,950,000 million bond package to address
the district’s enrollment growth and need for
additional capacity and renovation to existing
facilities. The bond program includes construction
of a new Elementary #6, Middle School #2 and
the renovation and expansion of Aledo Middle
School. The package also includes the renovation
of McAnally Intermediate to an elementary and
Vandagriff Elementary being converted to an early
childhood campus. n
