and 8 open green spaces for parks. This is a continuous
expansion to the original Parks of Aledo. In addition to
the neighborhood’s desirable location and amenities, it has
also piqued the interest of the public for another reason:
the 6.2 miles of biking/hiking trail intertwined within the
neighborhood. The Parks of Aledo Trail was designed to
enhance the natural topography of the area and preserve
native plants and wildlife. The Fort Worth developer and land
manager, James R. Harris Partners, LLC., in collaboration
with the City of Aledo, carefully planned and created this
Trail in alignment with Baird, Hampton and Brown’s design
and International Mountain Biking Association guidelines.
Thank you, Weatherford Mountain Bike Club for your hard
work bringing it into existence!
The Trail will continue to grow as the neighborhoods
develop and, at build-out (estimated 2022), will be
approximately 11 miles long. The Parks of Aledo Trail has
been recently gifted to the City of Aledo and will integrate
into the City’s plan of a future hiking/biking trail system of
its own, connecting its northern and southern boundaries.
As part of the hiking/biking trail system the City Council
partnered with the Weatherford Mountain Bike club to
convert the old tennis court at the Community Center Park
into a Kids Mountain Bike skills area. This is known as the
“PIT” and will be a kid’s pump track and trail for them to
learn the fundamentals of mountain biking. Construction
is underway and once complete, it will be promoted as
Downtown Aledo trailhead for the Parks of Aledo trails.
Use of the Parks of Aledo Trail is free to the public and
is expected to be a long-lasting amenity for the residents of
the City of Aledo, Parker County, and the Dallas/Fort Worth
Metroplex for many years to come. A Trail map can be found
on the Parks of Aledo’s website at www.ParksOfAledo.com.
Another new development is the acquisition of 228
acres of the Dean Ranch. The City of Aledo signed a joint
Ordinance with the City of Fort Worth to bring this tract
of land into the City of Aledo ETJ. As a result of Mayor
Kit working with the property owner, City of Fort Worth
Mayor and Council, City of Aledo Council and staff, and
the developer. Borders FM1187 on the east from Sonic to
Bankhead and will allow the City Council and residents to
determine what Aledo’s gateway looks like.
The development of The Villas of Aledo, “Downtown
Villas II”, on Old Annetta Road will add 37 new housing
units. Housing construction is currently under way.
Harvest of Aledo, a Memory Care & Senior Living Center,
on Bailey Ranch Road will be a 325,805 sq. foot facility with
9 duplex style cottages for seniors. Construction is underway,
with expected completion date in Fall 2021.
The Aledo Economic Development Corporation continues
to implement its strategic plan in supporting new and existing
businesses. They held meetings along with the City Council,
city boards, local businesses and community leaders in the
summer of 2019 with the Velocity Group to update the
strategic plan from 2008. The DNA of Place and establishing
Aledo as a Center of Educational Excellence were top priorities.
The update also includes Pine Street connection; Parks of
Aledo Trail System connectivity; a Civic District including
the Aledo Commons Park and a Tax Increment Reinvestment
Zone (TIRZ) project. Agreements have been signed with Place
Strategies to move forward on the development of the Pine
Street area and Trailhead. In July of 2021 the City Council
adopted the Aledo Downtown Master Plan which provides a
roadmap for developing the Downtown Plan and Pine Street
