
Champion Schools aim to promote social inclusion
through intentionally planned and implemented activities
affecting school-wide change. A Unified Champion School
has a school climate where students with and without
intellectual disabilities feel welcome and are routinely
included in, and feel a part of, all activities, opportunities
and functions.
• In the last two years, Bearcats and Ladycats athletics
programs have qualified for state in girls and boys
swimming, wrestling (in the sport’s inaugural season for
AISD), boys track and field, boys cross country, girls team
golf, and softball. Also, the Bearcats football team won
its third-straight state football championship and 10th
overall, becoming the first team in UIL history to win 10
football state titles in 2020.
• For the second year in a row, all three AHS robotics
teams advanced to the regional championship. One team
advanced to the UIL State Championships and FIRST
State Championship.
• AHS students fared well in UIL Academic competitions in
2020-2021. AHS had a gold medalist in Headline Writing
and won second place as a team in UIL Journalism. The
UIL Social Studies team placed third at state with one
student earning a state medal with a fourth-place finish,
while one student qualified for the UIL Literary Criticism
event. AHS also had qualifiers in both the HOSA and BPA
state competitions.
• In 2021, Aledo High School had 32 students who were
AP Scholars, 11 students named AP Scholars with Honors
and 13 students honored as AP Scholars with Distinction.
• The district continued to honor and recognize its employees
in 2020-2021. AISD awarded its teachers and employees
of the year with $36,000 in prize money through the
annual Marva Collins Awards. And 12 employees were
named Circle of Greatness Special Honorees after being
chosen from among hundreds of nominations submitted
by students, community members, parents and fellow
employees.
• Class of 2021 AHS seniors earned more than 225
career certifications through AISD Career and Technical
Education courses by the time they graduated. This includes
45 students who became the first class ever of Certified
Clinical Medical Assistants during the 2020-2021 school
year through the CTE Health Science pathway.
• Aledo FFA had three students go to the State FFA LDE
competition with the AHS public relations team finishing
seventh in the state.
• The Aledo Band has its second-highest finish at the UIL
State Marching Band contest ever coming in at seventh
place.
